THE EEL FESTIVAL

Two weekends in October to celebrate the "queen" of the typical products in the Delta of the Po: the eel.
In Comacchio the special dish is really the eel. This fish is fished twice a year: from October to December and during the lent, tat is when the water isn't so freezing.
It's of particular importance to remember that in this period the eel is specially tasty (as it will be all March) and the Comacchio Valles are one of the greatest fishing places.

Thanks to this Festival, on its 6th edition and known in all the national territory, thousands of tourists can follow an itinerary among valleys and lagunas that are rich of old tastes and curiosity.
It will be nice to walk among the bridges and canals of the "Little Venice" decorated for the event, listening to live-music, watching the local dances and above all savouring the eel's smell being prepared and served in various ways, from the starters to the side-dish.
For two years the Festival has been two weekends long to give the opportunity of savouring this special dish to those who are more greedy; in 2003, 180.000 people, in 2 weekends have been on the beautiful streets in Comacchio!



The great gastronomy stand is in the Yard of Bellini Palace and proposes the eel prepared in the most typical ways: eel broth with cornmeal, grilled eel, you can savour the starters and the misex fried fish of the valley, to finish with the typical Comacchio dessert and sorbet.
On the streets there are little markets of antiques, stands with food, show-trade.
